Author Dan Kolbet's interview with 1510 KGA radio

Today I was a guest on 1510 KGA's The Locker Room with Toby Howell to talk about Don't Wait For Me. The Locker Room is a sports show in Spokane, but Toby was kind enough to have me on as a fellow hockey fan. Several of my characters take a trip to a Spokane Chiefs game in the book.

I've been a hockey fan since I was a kid and my Uncle Larry used to take me to games. He taught me about hockey and how to yell at the players and refs so everyone could hear.

In the book, I needed an event to take place where a family attends some sort of event - I was writing this scene last June and unfortunately it was right about the time my uncle passed away. It seemed like the perfect tribute to him to include a trip to a Spokane Chiefs game and include some details that my family would recognize.

My uncle had this old orange VW Beetle that he bought when he was overseas in the Air Force. The heater in it took like 15 minutes to warm up and the ride to the arena took about 12 minutes - these games were always in the dead of winter when it was about 28 degrees outside. It was a chilly trip. So I included that detail in the book in his honor.

Hope you enjoy the interview.

The background noise just adds to the authenticity of the recording - just like you would have heard if you were in the car! Thanks to Brandi Smith for her quick iPhone recording skills.
